Proto:Mirror's Edge - The Cutting Room Floor (2025)

A PS3 Proto build of the game dated February 7th, 2008, about 9 months before the final release. The build seems to only contain the prologue as a level. Due to the build being a bit corrupted, it cannot be played. Most of its assets are still intact and can be extracted, though.

In PS3_GAME\USRDIR\TDGAME\SPLASH, an early splash screen for the game is found which also shows an early logo for the game. A lower-quality version of this image is also used for this build's PS3 save icon.

ATTRACT_MOVIE.BIK

In the 2008 February build of Mirror's Edge, an unused ATTRACT_MOVIE.bik was found, showing the unfinished version of levels in the game, an unused pursuit cop animation and the unfinished version of Still Alive, the theme song.

Music

In PS3_GAME\USRDIR\TDGAME\COOKEDPS3\TDMAINMENU.XXX an early music track for the main menu can be heard, sounding vastly different from the final's. The file name is A_M_MENU.

In PS3_GAME\USRDIR\TDGAME\COOKEDPS3\EDGE_PT1-PT2_AUD.XXX another early track can be found, named chase_011_PS3. This appears to be an earlier version of the track that plays when Faith encounters the cops in the prologue.

Character Dialogue

The build contains a pretty decent amount of early/unused dialogue for the characters. The dialogue will be structured as it is in the actual game. Early audio files are also compared to their final counterparts.

This last piece of dialogue is interesting. It follows a different naming scheme compared to every other file. It doesn't seem to be associated with any level in particular. This file is named Information_07_get_down_avenue_PS3.

Cut Online Multiplayer Mode

Within this build, assets for a completely scrapped online multiplayer mode can be found. (There are still some references to it in the final game's files.)

There were two teams: Runners and Cops. It seems the Runner players had to stash a bag somewhere, while the cops attempted to stop them.

"Takedown" was the original name for Mirror's Edge, hence the prefix "TD" in many of the files.

The directory for all of these assets is PS3_GAME\USRDIR\TDGAME\COOKEDPS3\TDGAME.XXX
